RESPECT FOR PATENTS

The integrated legal department continuously monitors compliance with intellectual and industrial property rights throughout the compatible cartridge life cycle, from design to end-of-life.

know_moreDid you know it?

More than one hundred patents can be filed to protect the design of a single inkjet cartridge!

What is the purpose of patents filed by OEMs?

What is the purpose of patents filed by OEMs?

The primary function of patent applications for print cartridges
is to prevent compatible cartridge manufacturers from making “clones” of OEM cartridges and using any technique to manufacture an alternative with components subject to a patent. OEMs may initiate legal action for using registered industrial property.

Ethics and ARMOR Solutions

ARMOR Office Printing’s policy is unambiguous: respect the patents filed by the OEMs

To do so, all patent filing activity by OEMs must be carefully monitored and analyzed. This activity may only be carried out by highly skilled lawyers in the matter. Therefore, for many years ARMOR has included a lawyer specializing in industrial property on its teams.

Once the patents have been analyzed, ARMOR develops a compatible solution excluding any use of patented components for, in fine, an alternative to the original brand, but with all the performance required to ensure functionality and quality similar to the original cartridge.

ARMOR solutions have a different technical approach to achieve similar functionality but do not use any mechanical or electronic component patented.
These innovative R&D efforts are for all critical patents filed by OEMs.
And when the ARMOR intelligent solution is unlike the OEM solution in every aspect, it is a very clear and visible indication that the patents were complied with from the design stage.

Patents and Inkjet cartridges

Today Inkjet cartridges are more than just ink reservoirs. They consist of a large number of mechanical and electronic components to ensure optimal printing functionality. Here are a few examples of components that can be subject to a patent:

Mechanical components:

  • Storing ink at exact atmospheric pressure
  • Construction the ink’s pathway to the printhead
  • Mechanical functions essential for recognition (cartridge type, colour, etc. )
  • Cartridge insertion mechanics

Electrical and electronic components:

  • Cartridge electronic control circuit
  • Ink level sensors
  • Ink flow monitoring
  • Electrical connections
  • Printhead operation
  • Wireless information transmission (RFI) elements

These components, individually and as an ensemble, are protected by numerous patents protecting OEM industrial property rights. Hundreds of patents and trademarks have been filed by OEMs in Europe.
