My remanufactured cartridge for my Canon printer is not recognized or detected empty, what should I do?

It is possible that an alert message is displayed when the cartridge is installed indicating that the cartridge is empty or is not an original cartridge (this message can vary by printer model). This is due to the fact that it is a remanufactured cartridge.

Just click “OK” the message on the computer screen, or directly on the printer control panel.

If the ink level indicator appears, please do not take this into account because the status is not that of the cartridge inserted.

No light comes on indicating cartridge status

• When you insert the cartridge, the light does not illuminate as with a OEM cartridge. This is normal because the cartridge lights have been patented by Canon.
• When the cartridge is empty, it is normal that no light comes on or flashes.
• The usual message on your screen will inform you that your cartridge is empty.

When replacing an empty cartridge another is not recognized

Problem:

“My magenta cartridge was empty. So I replaced it with a new magenta cartridge, and now the yellow cartridge is empty!”

Possible Cause:

The yellow cartridge is not defective! It is simply empty and has completed its normal life cycle.

Indeed, when installing a new cartridge, the printer performs an ink load cycle and cleaning cycle that uses ink in the 4 cartridges. This operation may bring a nearly empty cartridge to its end-of-life.

Solution / Advice:

Replace the empty cartridge with a new one

The cartridge I just installed is not recognized

Problem:

“The new cartridge(s) I just installed is (are) not recognize my printer”

Possible Cause:

Incorrect physical contact between the chip on the cartridge and the printer. In addition, a bad contact on a single cartridge can cause the all 4 cartridges to not be recognized

Solution / Advice:

Remove and replace the unrecognized cartridge(s).

If this the problem persists, replace the defective unrecognized cartridge(s)

My cartridge is not recognized although I have used it and there is still ink inside

Problem:

“My cartridge is not recognized when I have already printed before. In addition, it is not empty because when I shake it, I hear the ink inside”

Cause:

The cartridge is not defective! It has simply completed its normal life cycle and is now empty. The two following points may suggest to the user that the cartridge is not empty:

1. Message “ink cartridges not recognized” and not “cartridges are empty”:

Indeed, the end-of-life message for our cartridge may be “cartridge not recognized” while with genuine Epson cartridges, it is “empty cartridge”

2. Remaining ink may be heard in the cartridge when it is shaken:

Indeed, each printer model consumes differently and therefore ink may remain in an empty cartridge. In addition, we do not have foam inside the cartridge, so you hear remaining ink when shaken.

Solution / Advice:

Replace the empty cartridge with a new one

Extra Capacity Activation

Instructions for activating the extra capacity when the printer indicates the cartridge is empty.

The printers in question are: B40W, BX300FN, BX310FN, BX600FW, D120, DX4450, DX7400, DX7450, DX8400, DX8450, DX9400F, SX100, SX105, SX110, SX115, SX200, X205, SX210, SX215, SX218, SX400, SX405, SX410, SX415, SX510W, SX515W, SX600FW, SX610FW, D78*, D92* DX4000*, DX4050*, DX5000*, DX5050*, X6050*, S20*, S21*

(*) For these printers, the extra capacity can sometimes be activated without any
manipulation. See specific cases at the end.

After inserting a new cartridge, you can print until the following message is displayed (see illustration). Click “How to....” Then ignore messages from the printer by clicking “Next” then “OK.”

A new message appears indicating the amount of ink available. You get now 50% more to print from a black cartridge or 100% more for colour cartridges.

The cartridge will definitely be empty when this window is displayed.

* The extra capacity may sometimes activate itself.

After inserting a new cartridge, you can print until the following message is displayed:

Special case 1: The extra capacity has enabled without any manipulation. The cartridge is now definitely empty.3

Special case 2: If, after reinserting the cartridge you get this message, it means that the extra capacity has already been activated and the cartridge is empty.

This procedure is valid only once per cartridge, trying a second time may damage your print heads. This applies to each colour cartridge.

Alert message after inserting a new cartridge

It is possible that an alert message is displayed indicating that the cartridge is empty or is not an original cartridge (this message can vary by printer model). Just click “OK.” If the ink level indicator is displayed, please do not take this into account. The status shown is not that of the cartridge inserted, check the “Do not show this message” box and close the window.

If the “Resume” button flashes: click 5 seconds on it and printing resumes.

The ink level is displayed as low or empty

After inserting your cartridge and while using it, it is possible that messages appear indicating that the ink level is low or that your cartridge is empty.

The type of icon that appears on your computer screen is as follows: Be aware that this information does not reflect the actual ink cartridge and does not prevent printing.

Press “OK” when the printer suggests and ignore the messages.

When white lines appear despite one or more print head cleaning cycles, you should change your cartridge as it is empty, in order to avoid damaging the printhead on the printer.

Changing Print Cartridges

For technical reasons, your Lexmark printer remembers the electronic identifiers stored on your cartridge’s chip and prevents you from using two identical identifiers in a row.

To avoid any problems, we have numbered our cartridges in the correct order for installation:

Use the cartridge numbered 1 first. When the cartridge is empty and needs replacing, insert the cartridge numbered 2.

If the identifier on the last cartridge used is the same as the new cartridge numbered 1, it will not be detected. In this case, please perform the operation in reverse: insert the new cartridge 2, then use cartridge 1 when the cartridge 2 is empty.

Please always proceed in the same way in your future purchases.

Caution: Firmware updates for your printer can interfere with the proper operation of compatible cartridges. We recommend you not perform these updates.
